What are SIGMETs and AIRMETs?

SIGMETs (Significant Meteorological Information) and AIRMETs (Airmen's Meteorological Information) are advisories issued to alert pilots of potentially hazardous weather. SIGMETs cover severe weather that may affect all aircraft, while AIRMETs are more specific to smaller aircraft under less severe conditions.
